Obviously the "cuisine delights" of Tex-Mex ethnic junk foods
have not yet invaded the pristine shores of The Land Down Under.
Refried beans are just that --- beans are first cooked as whole
beans, then mashed, and then re-fried, classically with lard, to
give them the added cholesterol and calories necessary to meet
standards.
If one wants only the seasoned stewed whole beans, one orders
"pot beans", with the disadvantage of not getting all the fat
that one is paying for.
Of course the whole business properly is carried on in Tex-Mex
Spanish, a dialect all its own - who says that the US is not a
bi-lingual country?
