Well, we use .uk where you use .de, but we have another qualifier before
that. Most ISP's are commercial, so we use .co.uk, and for academic sites
(equivalent of .edu in America) we have .ac.uk as the end of the domain
name.

I Australia, they use .au and have the American-style .edu, .gov, .com,
etc., ahead, giving .edu.au, .gov.au, .com.au, etc. See Wayne Steele's
address in his signature block for an example.
