and use the scientific names which are universal.

The "proper" scientific name of Carol's vegetable is Ipomoea aquatica
(Ipomeya vodnaya)

I know what she is talking about but I can't google up anything
about "luk lettuce". In Google images luk-latuk brings up images of
regular lettuce.
