Actualy a good Active Filter is very good at making "in the mud" signals
readable. And actualy I woulod pick it as a choice over an RF amplifier.

In theory they can do the job. But typicaly the ones the casual DXer can
buy typicaly make the situation worse.
Now of course there are very expensive very low noise amplifiers out
there that can help. but as they say, "If you have to Ask you cannot
afford it", Particualrly one of those Liguid Nitrogen cooled beauties.
