Opera works as Geo wants.

But ... I prefer the highlighting (as I recall it) from Forte's Agent. It had
one bold colour for new-not-read; a different bold colour for new-and-read; and
black for previously-read.

Opera has bold-blue for new-not-read; bold-black for
new-and-clicked-on-to-see-in-preview-window and non-bold-black for read. The
problem is that when you move from a message to the next message the bold-black
changes to non-bold-black if you use the space bar (or the "G" key -- go to
next message).

I used Agent for a while but it was somewhat of a pain to manage multiple
newsgroups on multiple servers. My ISP has removed part of that problem (they
no longer support usenet newsgroups).

IIRC, Agent would also move from the last message in one newsgroup to the first
unread message in the next newsgroup automatically. Opera, otoh, requires you
to manually select the next newsgroup to read and then manually navigate to the
first message where you want to start reading.
