Warren Buffett raised his kids telling them that.  All have been reasonably
successful in their own right, although AFAIK none went into the investment
business.  Now his kids are in their 40s and 50s and don't NEED a huge
inheritance - which they aren't going to get anyway.  Buffett himself still
lives in a very ordinary tract house in a neighborhood that has seen better
days.  He and his (late) wife bought the house in the 1950s, ostentatious is
one thing he isn't.
