| subject: | OS/2 C++ Programming? |
In a message dated 12-09-98, Will Honea said to David Noon about "OS/2 C++ Programming?" Hi Will, DN> Have you priced the upgrade from VA C++ 3.0 to VA C++ 3.6? The 3.6 DN> version was not widely touted by IBM as the upgrade price was over DN> US$3000. It was strictly a corporate product. WH>David, according to the compiler team members on the IBM news group WH>(news.software.ibm.com) the 3.6 upgrade was for the AIX version only - WH>that would explain the bargain price. The Compuserve announcement was that all 3 platforms were to receive the upgrade, to try and bring the grammars into line. After all, C++ is the most portable language in computing. WH>VACPP for OS/2 is at 3.0, FP8 That's what I'm running here. WH>with ver. 4.0 either gone gold or going this week. No upgrade prices WH>yet, tho. If Toronto's promises of matching the NT version feature for WH>feature hold, it's a really nice package - head and shoulders above WH>3.0, especially the visual builder and the compile speeds. Well, they couldn't possibly make it any slower. My main hope is that they have not tied it to LPEX to perform builds. I would still like to be able to run NMAKE myself. WH>I use 3.0 WH>for OS/2 and 3.5 for NT so I'm really looking forward to the release - WH>assuming a decent price, that is. Unfortunately, there are differing standards of decency. I fear that the price will be around $400, which in this part of the world could easily become 400 pounds + VAT.
