I'm not clear on their operation myself.
A quick intenet search on appropriate keywords would
fix that.
Actually I believe there is a light sensitive drum.
I'm thinking the drum is charged by the corona wire
mentioned here a number of times and light is used
to discharge that part of the drum where you didn't want
toner to adhere leaving only that which retained a charge
to carry toner to the print paper?
