SH> Guess the price depends on which bird you choose. I paid $700
SH> for my gray (which is not out of line if you get one from a
SH> breeder); $120 for his cage; maybe another $50 for his goodies.
SH> You can get a bird a lot cheaper from a good breeder than from
SH> a pet store (they mark them up 100-200%). Even if you have to
SH> drive a ways to visit a breeder, it's worth it. You can be
SH> more assured that the critter hasn't been exposed to as many
SH> diseases as in a pet store, you can check out its owners and
SH> environment too. Around here, most of the good breeders offer
SH> a health guarantee and will pay for your first vet visit. If the
SH> bird comes up with a condition or disease, they will refund your
SH> money.
SH> Hope you still stay lurking around these parts... who knows?
SH> Maybe someone near you will have a bird for sale that you can
Coincidently, today's local paper has a dozen want ads from
people selling various birds, some are obviously breeders and others
seem to be owners trying to get rid of adult or very young birds.
The prices are within the range of $700 for some Greys and $1500
for some various Cockatoos. Some with cages, some without. Still too
expensive for me for the moment.
