I am talking about District Attorneys, Judges and County sheriffs et al,
they shouldnt be elected positions.

The reason why Nifong did what he did was he was standing for election in
2006, he was initially appointed by the governor of NC to serve out the
remaining term of the prior DA. His constituency is primarily African
American, he took the case for political reasons to assure his election,
its that simple, he let his job get beholden to politics, in this case for
his own self interest, these positions should be free from that.
