I would go to your local lib. and read about antennas.
  frequency and lenght  are in porpotinon whith time. 
  when i was in REACT many, many, moons ago I built my anntena their
  book. as  i recall  a one quater wave anntena was 9',6 or 8",
  you adjusted it by sniping the lenght.
  At one point i built a full wave delta in the attic and had a north/south
  dirrectional that had others asking me to build them one... I used ....get
  this _speaker-wire_ for the elements.
