DELAYED THANK YOU

 Re: your laser problem...

 I haven't seen the complete thread and haven't a
clue about lasers but here's a quote from:
 TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIRING COMPUTER PRINTERS,
BY STEPHEN BIGELOW -- TROUBLESHOOTING CHART:

 --------------------QUOTING-----------------------
HOROZONTAL BLACK LINES ARE PLACED RANDOMLY THROUGH
 THE PRINT:

 1. check or replace the beam detect sensor
 2. check or replace the scanner assembly
 3. check all connectors and wiring from the scanner
 -----------------END-QUOTE-----------------------

If this means anything to you, there may be more
info about how to go about the above in the book...
don't know since I refer to it for dot matrix info
 only. Let me know.

BTW, I was on here a few months back and got some
helpful information and tips, but then an illness
in the family occupied my time and I was unable to
respond. [I'll thank everyone else individually as
well, but should I leave anyone out rest assured
that it is completely inadvertent - just the slopy
way the files are organized on my hard-drive.]

So thanks, Roy, for the following information. I
was looking for the Angora-type servers that
Charles filled me in on [thanks, Charles] and
apologies for being so long in responding.

JB> Hmm, I guess the drum healed somehow. that's good.

Maybe humidity has something to do with it?

RJT> but I'm *still* getting a number of
 horizontal lines across the page

JB> hmm.... either the drum is damaged (only if
the pattern repeats exactly) or there's a problem
with one of the corona wires, the drive for the
 laser, or the laser itself.

RJT> Got three pages here and I don't *think* it's
a repeating pattern of any sort, but it's hard to be sure

JB> what's the circumference of the drum?

Hard to say exactly. It's somewhere around 3-4" in diameter,
but I'd have to open it up to measure and be sure.

JB> anyway. three pages should be enough that you
can align two of them somwhow and get those lines
to match up if drum damage is the cause.

That's what I thought, but there are 3 pages here
and I can't line it up to make an exact match
 anywhere.

JB> if the lines have sharp edges check that the
poer supply to the laser is up to scratch etc...
 (I'm just guessing here)

JB> ISTR corona wire problem have fuzzy edges and
 are typically vertical lines.

These are horizontal lines, and of varying widths,
somewhat blurry, and in some cases lighter as you
get toward the edge of the paper. Does that narrow
 it down any?
