Last week (or so) someone here was having problems dealing with ants.
I just saw an interesting segment on Home & Garden TV about a way to
deal with both the regular ants and the fire ants, and wanted to pass
their suggestions on:
BLACK or RED ANTS:
1. Mix together a solution of 1/3 Cup molasses, 1 Tablespoon
granulated sugar and 1 Tablespoon dry yeast.
2. Smear this on a piece of stiff paper or thin cardboard, and place
next to the ant source. The ants will eat this mixture and the yeast
will cause them to swell and burst. The person on TV said you should
see nothing but dead ants by the next day.
FIRE ANTS:
Take some uncooked dry grits and sprinkle around the fire ant hill.
The fire ants will eat the grits and they, too, will burst open. The
how-to-do guy swore that this works every time.
A nice thing about both of these solutions is they are bio-degradable
and won't harm pets or flowers. I don't have any ants to experiment
on, so would like to know if these solutions really work.
... If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid.
