subject: Keyboard stuffer from COMM ports.

Thx for your reply.
Unfortunately, the 4GL I am programming in does have lots of limitation.
In the source code user input is assumed to be comming from the keyboard.
To change my application to read from a file for input from the COMM port
would require me to re-write NOT just my application but DATAFLEX to
re-write their runtime. Currently, thats a big unknown to us and to
DATAFLEX. The way we solved this limitation under the DOS environment to
purchased a product called THE SOFTWARE WEDGE from T.A.L. Enterprises.
They advertise their product in the back pages of PC-Magazine. What their
products does is as follows:
It is a TSR and at load time it reads a configuration file to help it setup
the communication to the COMM port. It does have some filtering
capabilities built in to modify the raw data coming. Their goal is to
provide this tool for application that have NO control of lower level
services. Whatever input from the COMM port are read in and clean-up and
pass along into the keyboard buffer. To the application it feels like
input was actually keyed in by a user.
I spoke to them asking for an OS/2 version of their product and their
response was there isn't a demand for it and the future of OS/2 is
questionable. If you know of anyone that have such a similar product or
willing to write a similar product please let me know.
Thx.
