Our gardening class instructor stressed the need to know the
larvae/feeding times of lawn and other soil bugs. Spraying then
will do them in, he said, especially for ingested poisons (they
are at feeding time, right?). Spraying at any other times is
pointless and wasteful, he said.
White-bugs (in lawns) were to be sprayed April-May and Aug-Sep,
from memory.
I'd reckon that if you asked the same question at several
reputable garden centres and averaged the answers you'd be on the
right track.
