I never heard of a bird actually changing its gender to please its
cagemate...they only ACT that way!

Whoever that breeder was that replaced the deceased birds that quickly,
he sounds very good. I, too, used to expect honesty from others. I got
burned several times (not just with birds). Now I hope for honesty but
expect less, and take more precautions to protect myself, just in case.

In bird breeding, reputation is everything, since breeders are scattered
so far apart in some places, and in others they're so close together
that competition is fierce. Potential buyers have to rely on word of
mouth. This is one of the things Adair and I mentioned when we did the
polyoma talks at clubs. If you go out of your way to keep your name
clean every way possible, then nothing you do can come back to haunt you
and hurt you later.
