I can see where it would work. I've found cross-references to be a bit less
robust than the styleref field code. For example, if you delete a paragraph
that's cross-referenced and then type in a new one, the cross-reference is
lost unless the exact referenced text is overtyped.
If that's what you need, though, it's just a matter of training the users.
Just out of curiousity, are your chapter numbers manually typed or generated
as part of heading numbering? I made a writer friend very happy by
explaining how to do automatic chapter numbering for him.
