Hi Sylvain,
About "mail" of April 23 and "Reminescences" of April 25:
SL> Did you read the message I made about packets?
No, i don't think i had a chance! I searched this echo quite a bit
but all i've found that could relate was dating back to March, 2002. :(
MS> Luckily, a few `FdN' archives seem to resurface from time to time...
MS> ...`Win 2K' power-user... ...might want to test for us... ...vague
MS> "no-can-do" arguments are too easy. ...`NDIS3Pkt.COM'... ...brings
MS> back more reminiscence... ...plenty of variety, will, curiosity...
SL> ...I know how diehard you are at DOS level but... I have seen this
SL> post and you mentioned Dan's site. ...ndispkt going on win98...
Before anything else, it's true i'm a DOS BBSer so it won't come as
a surprize if i must answer that i know very little about `NDIS3NT.ZIP',
even less about a version for `W9x'; our roles reverse! Allow me to be
blaunt for a minute: my point was that some individuals will persist in
keeping misconceptions alive, despite the evidence which happens to have
been at hand for many years... Having little else to read but "A day in
the life of Charles Angelich" or "What Steven Horn doesn't know or won't
tell you" would make me go asleep and especially when users are grateful
after repeated invitations to migrate toward the ~WEB~, while others are
happy having "ruffled feathers" and they won't stand against charismatic
icons who quit being DOS-INet users but yet have taken over our echo!...
I feel sad when help for a legitimate user must come from NewsGroup
people, while a few individuals would rather contemplate the frustration
inflicted by the delays (a full month) than contribute to disprove their
point that this hobby is dying (as they ensure it does choke all right)!
It's the sort of reason why i didn't bother to read `FdN' posts for
two weeks; too bad i must throw more stuff into one raging fire but the
thing is `NDIS3NT.ZIP' was only a common link which fitted the topic all
too well (i.e. reminiscences) - i'm afraid mentioning `NDIS3Pkt.COM' was
purely incidental if you must ask me! %-o As one might argue, the late
apparent revival of our echo is mainly artificial and is one consequence
of warfairs which got revived earlier this year; in clear, after people
have tried the ~URL~s posted in "Reminescences", i expect them to wonder
if, in fact, this echo isn't just being *FLOODED*! %-o With that being
said, i hope you won't hold grudge against me for my reminder that, once
again, simple BBSers (not "gurus") got no choice but to not count on the
local figures of "authority" to unleash useful information. Frankly, my
eight parts suite was meant as a way to refresh some memories about what
`DOS-INet' used to be for, to remind those who think it's only two words
("DOS" and "INet" taken separately) that they lost
their perspective, or
that they didn't bother to attend when `DOS-INet' was still creative. I
could hardly imagine anyone might ever care that `Win 2K'/`WinSock' will
be made to work in a DOS box, much less with a DOS INet application (and
i don't mean "console")!!! In plain honesty, i must also confess what a
disapointment it was when my request about the echo's rules was ignored.
It's unfortunate that you had to wait so much but lets say the very
few posts which kept me reading recently, after i finally DownLoaded one
more .QWK packet yesterday, were from Janis Kracht! :> Considering few
authors/creators called to the bench by Charles had the chance to defend
themselves in years, she felt refreshing: i had never heard her version
but, oh boy... did i know her name before we were introduced or what!!!
Now that i shown exactly why i mentioned `NDIS3NT' let me repeat my
argument to the whole crowd: Charles's accusation about the `MS-Kermit'
source-code is wrong and serves no purpose but his own; i'm curious, no
remark came from Lanciani about it hey? What about Steven's statements?
Your post was one more opportunity to set things right; you and me
we must use patience if we're to learn more about `NDIS3Pkt.COM' but, to
the very least, i'll have this warning reinstated: self-centered grumpy
old boys become a nuisance once we allow them to bend reality at will...
SL> I've found something that might please you, rlfossil 1.23...
^
I wonder if it wouldn't be coming from some Russian fellow who made
a short intervention, long ago: he disapeared as regular users began to
ask. It won't matter if you forgot this, one ~URL~ should do fine! ;^)
SL> ...better connect speed handling... ...compiled with the older...
Your intervention brings hope which i wish could last... There was
no doubt in my mind that a Virtual MoDem ~TelNet~ "Shim" for DOS must be
capable of better behaviour, given a programmer has tried hard enough...
I infer you may know where its source-code is from, right? If there's a
chance `RLFossil' was compiled with 8088s in mind you should, oh please,
ELABORATE! I guess you're aware you now have undivided attention, hey?!
SL> ...isn't a mystery to me at plain DOS, but it is one under Windows.
We are both in a same situation: you'd have read about it long ago
should i had known better before! I won't mind trying `NDIS3Pkt.COM' if
i get a chance (if it also works in `Win 9x/Me' environments). :) `Win
2K' has found it's way to my to-do list since i can't get any satisfying
information from those lurking around who already use it (there's little
need to specify i'm thinking about `MS-Kermit' in a DOS box)! ;^) This
later project will have to wait though, i hope i can try it this year...
Salutations, :)
