Yoo Hoo, James!
On May 9th '97 you wrote to All:
James, as moderator of this Disney echo, please take discussion of
homosexuality and whether you think it is right or not to a more
appropriate FidoNet echo or to private e-mail. Do not follow-up to
this message here in the Disney echo.
As to your other points:
JS> First off, the facts I mentioned are not MY facts but facts that were
JS> reported by newspapers in Orlando. Check it out for yourself.
We have checked it out and have been keeping up with the news. As to you
saying it has been reported "by newspapers in Orlando" you haven't
provided any specific dates, articles, or direct quotes.
JS> Second, I think that all people should have equal rights, this IS
JS> America right?, but not when it harms other people.
Your interpretation of the laws of the U.S. are not the same as what
the courts say. Just because you feel that way does not make it legal
to discriminate against homosexuals in the U.S.
JS> Did you know that Walt was a Christian?
Yes.
JS> That doesn't make him any better than anyone else, but I do believe
JS> that if he were here today he would not like what's going on.
You opinion. The man's dead and we have no way of knowing.
Besides, if he were alive today he would still have to abide by the
laws of the United States, just as The Walt Disney Company is doing
without him.
JS> Also, that you need to know what you are supporting. By visiting
JS> Disneyland or Disneyworld, you are supporting what they believe.
JS> Thats why we have boycotts. To show Disney that we do not support
JS> the homosexual lifestyle.
Your opinion is that Disney "suports" it. The fact of the matter is
that Disney does not discriminate against *anyone*, homosexuals
included -- and by following the laws of the United States and not
discriminating is not the same as "supporting" any lifestyle.
So, by visiting Disneyland or Walt Disney World is nothing at all
like you describe.
JS> In response to one comment that was made, Disneyland or World DOES
JS> have a Gay Day. It is not put on by Disney but they don't "put it
JS> down" either. Thats the same as supporting it. If you let something
JS> happen on your private property with your permission then you are
JS> supporting it.
And if you will read what I replied to you about this before, you will
also see that Disney would be acting illegally if it refused entry to
*any* group who had paid admission to any of Disney's theme parks.
So, once again, Disney is *not* running a "Gay Day" nor is it supporting
it -- they are simply letting the gay and lesbian group in, just like
it lets in any group of people, be it for a family reunion, commercial
tour group, or what-have-you.
If Disney were to "put it down" then they'd be sued for discrimination
because Disney would be breaking the laws of the United States. Simple.
JS> Somebody earlier said that this had come up in discussion before. Did
JS> everybody gang up on the user who wrote the message because you didn't
JS> like what he was saying?
Gang up? No.
Answer the message(s)? Yes.
Reply with the same factual information we have replied to you? Yes.
JS> Everyone is allowed to have a voice of course, but maybe
JS> we should all listen to what's being said. I check my fact carefully
JS> before I open my mouth or type with my fingers. If you don't believe
JS> anything I've said then check it for yourself OR if you would like, I
JS> will send you the same Fact Sheet or newspaper article that I got the
JS> facts from.
Is it the Orlando Sentinel or a publication put out by a group with a
political/religious agenda?
JS> Leave me E-Mail with your address or even an Internet address and I
JS> will do my best to get it to you.
Both my FidoNet private e-mail address and my Internet address are
included on every message I post, including my original reply to you.
JS> I guess the bottom line is that if we don't start watching what we
JS> support, we're going to end up with an America we don't want.
Yes, and that's why we have laws and elect representatives who make the
laws. If we don't follow the laws of the U.S., like you are advocating,
then we'll certainly wind up with an America we don't want.
JS> If anyone wants me to take this thread to another
JS> conference then please let me know. Sincerely, James
Yes, James, reply via private e-mail or find a FidoNet echo that discusses
lifestyles, rather than this Disney one. Thanks!
