 FWIW, I have a very hard time believing this, as the power
companies use DC for some power line distribution systems,
and then use inverters to make the AC that ultimately gets
distributed to our homes.
 Do you remember the recent outage that was over several
western states? That distribution system was part DC and
inverters.
