subject: MS-Kermit Transfers

Hi Winston,

About "MS-KERMIT Transfers" of May 2:

WS> To All You MS-KERMIT People...

There ain't many around here, really. You can address me directly!

WS> I am attempting to perform an MS-KERMIT file transfer using the
WS> WildCat! KERMIT mode here at ChowdaNet...

Once again, unless Craig Healy has resumed the work which he put on
the "back-burner" shortly after Christmass (sorry if i don't recall what
year it was exactly!), euh... i'll reply that 3rd-party implementations
as that found in all `WildCat!' packages are crippled to the bone so you
are likely to find it practically useless: it's a pre-1985 version! :(

WS> ...so that I can avoid re-dialing via FTP and NetTamer for the 2,000
WS> byte NODEDIFFs.

Well, in that case, i guess the supplice of using 96 bytes `Kermit'
packets is bareable since the transfer isn't going to last for too long!

                                 ~ %-b,

WS> I have set the file TYPE to BINARY, changed translation from
WS> READABLE to INVERTIBLE... Am I forgetting anything?
    ^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^
You already got an extensive example in the form of a March 16 file
called `Kerm_RLF.INI' (from `Kerm_RLF.ZIP')... Comments are in English,
the ~URL~ to the latest official v3.14 package with *FULL* documentation
was published very recently in my late eight parts "Reminescences" post.

In any case, here's my suggestion: you could UpLoad a known binary
archive and DownLoad it using `Kermit' in order to compare the two. The
different content might very well prove to be informative enough to you,
and probably to some of us who'd then become able to formulate comments.

WS> ARCE will still not unarc...

Quite frankly, you refer to options which i don't recognize and i'm
going to ask what `Kermit' implementation you've been using, exactly? I
won't bother to check from the `MS-Kermit' command-line, i'd rather wait
to see the full listing of the `Kermit' .INI configuration file you got!

Oh, while i'm thinking of it... I know you have a very restrictive
limit when it comes to Hard-Disk space but have you finally obtained cps
figures using a ~RAMDisk~ or is the suspense going to last a bit longer?

                                  8^o

                                         Salutations,

                                         Michel Samson

... And then there were none, a footnote in the history of the InterNet.
