That's about what I remember hearing.

MvdV> Oops. The infamous run time error 200. :-(

MvdV> That's a problem. My main machine is 500 MHz. Then again
 MvdV> I
MvdV> managed to patch programs that others said couln't be
 MvdV> patched...

Another SysOp in my net previously using the sw version ended up having
that problem, however the machine he had the problem on was a 2.6g.... I
belive he was previously running on a higher than 500MHz machine so you may
not have a problem there... He informed DefSol of his problem to get a
response stating they were aware of the sittuation but they were unsure if
they would patch that version, so he upgraded to the commercial version. I
have been running the commercial version for some time now and have never
had to worry about it.

I think it will run on your 500MHz machine, but don;t hold me to it.

MvdV> So I should give it a try.

MvdV> Got a url where I can download the freeware cersion?

http://www.defsol.se/ffdsw.html

It is not freeware either, but shareware. Single node only (which wouldn't
be an issue for your intended use) and some features disabled. I am not
sure (don't remember it's been so long) if any editor functions are
disabled or not.

Using FMail (gotta keep it on topic ya know) along with it, FMail will
create your folders.fd file using your existing areas (if you turn it on to
export that file) for use with with the FM Editor.

 >> and only the commercial version flies like the wind.

MvdV> Well, I am not going to pay for a POTS mailer that I am
MvdV> not going to use anyway. It is just sitting there these
MvdV> days. I let it run as long as it does not cost me
MvdV> anything, but that's it. IP is the future...

IP has been pretty much the way it has gone in Z1... with VOIP coming into
the picture now though modem connections may not be so outdated as one
thought they would become. My VOIP service affords me free LD throughout
the US and Canada, and I have been intending to run FD with a modem again
to be able to directly contact POTS only nodes in Z1 without any additional
cost... it could also potentialy allow me to feed FidoNet to some who don't
have high speed i-net, in any area of Z1, wether they have VOIP or not... I
could simply hit their system at no cost to me either CM if they are set up
for it, or ZMH, and they need not have to poll my system if it will
generate cost on their end.

If I put the modem back up, this old outdated setup will allow me to hit
POTS, telnet, BinkP, FTP, and TransX nodes, using what I believe to be a
superior editor all around for my messaging needs :)
