G'day Denise, 06 Oct 96 09:17, Denise Webber wrote to Rod Gasson: DW> When I get this new VCR what is the best way of keeping the heads DW> clean DW> a cleaning tape or what? The "or what" generally does a better job than a headcleaning tape. It has been my experience that headcleaning tapes only work when the heads aren't dirty ... Contrary to popular belief, dirty heads DON'T cause a 'slight loss of picture quality' - When your heads get dirty it usually happens suddenly, and you basically lose the entire picture (it looks like you are viewing the tape through a snow storm. When this occurs, 99% of the time none of the headcleaning tapes will have any effect. Video heads are pretty much 'self cleaning' anyway - the same abrasive action that wears heads out will tend to keep them clean. If you have a clear/watchable picture your heads aren't dirty. If you do ever get dirty heads (snowy playback picture), they will often clear themselves simply by leaving a tape playing in the machine. Cheers, Rod --- FMail 0.94* Origin: QWKRR128 test point.
