I need to know the difference between
1. Dolby B
2. Dolby C
3. Dolby HX Pro
4. Dolby Pro-Logic
How exactly does Dolby NR reduce noise on the tape? By ear, it seems
that I can achieve the same result through a graphic equalizer. Is the
sound compromised in any way when NR is on?
On another note, will a more precise rotation of music CD result in a
richer deeper sound? Some companies are selling these rings that you
put around your CDs (which will increase the moment of inertia).
One claims that a more precise rotation will result in a deeper bass
and less need for error correction (which implies that the everyday
CD player doesn't rotate the disc accurately). Another claims that
normally, without the rings, the laser reader from the player actually
reflects off the sides of the CD and interferes with the reader. With the
rings, these reflections are reduced and hence, you'll hear better music.
Both of these reasons sound fake to me. Does anybody have any knowledge
on how CDs actually work to justify these two arguments? For the same
product, they are offering two very distinct reasons as to why I should
buy it.
Does the CD rotate at different speeds as the laser reader moves
toward the outer disc? Is there more data in the outer rim than
the inner rim?
thanks!
