DH> I guess if there is a positive note in all of this, you really have
DH> to marvel at the sense of community spirit, the way
DH> people have poured
DH> out to help fight the flood. The kids who've been working to fill
DH> sandbags and build dikes have been absolutely wonderful, everyone is
DH> out helping -- it truly makes you feel good to see
DH> such support. Some
DH> area residents were concerned that the kids were missing too much
DH> school and shouldn't be allowed to help during the school day, but
DH> these students (high school and college) are
DH> learning some of the most
DH> valuable lessons of their lives, they are learning the importance of
DH> community, helping your neighbor (unselfishly), teamwork,
DH> communication, coordination -- There are hundreds
DH> of students here that
DH> will have a unique picture of what "service" really means.
I have been watching the events unfold on TV, and what you mention above has
impressed me also. The spirit of sharing and coping with individual
tragedies has had an effect on our family also.
Kids will bounce back, I worry about the adults, especially the older ones,
they will need lots of support.
Thank you for your post.
