Samoa will give you good climate and a South Pacific type atmosphere - but
the Samoans that fled the U
s take over of half of their nation are very anti-American, often secretly
and covertly so, so you'll find your characters with constant funny little
things-that-won't-work much more often than being spat on in the street. You
have to remember that the US was *supposed* to be the ally, coming into the
South Pacific to help us defend ourselves against Japanese invasion - except
that the Japanese have gone and half of Samoa has never again had freedom and
autonomy. That causes an underlying current of resentment which shows itself
against Americans who arrive thinking they have a right to an "Island
Paradise"
