subject: CD via RF modulator?

-=> Quoting Phil Roberts to All <=-
PR> I've seen CD players for cars that can be installed with an RF
PR> modulator. This means they are able to transmit FM to an existing FM
 PR> stereo radio.
PR> Are these generally installed inline between the vehicle antenna and
PR> the head unit, or do they just broadcast?
PR> I don't have any experience with these. Can anyone tell me if this is
PR> a worthwhile way to install a CD changer in the car? The idea is
PR> appealing, because it appears that the unit could be installed as a
PR> transportable between 2 or more vehicles.
PR> I realize that the dynamic range of CD is much greater than FM, and
PR> that this isn't the best way to go. However, I'm satisfied with the FM
PR> sound in the vehicle. If the CD sound would equal the existing FM
PR> sound, I'd also be satisfied with that.
 PR> Any opinions?

Most that I've seen and worked with hook up that way, but I'm not
sure if there are any variations on the hookup design. As for the
sound, you are limited only by the quality of the FM tuner in your head
unit. If it works good, it will sound good. (You're gonna have to
move this to CAR_AUDIO, I guess they finally got a car audio echo
established.) :)
