Unfortunately, I know very little about the religious implications of
the Ukranian election. I only know what CNN reports. I'll have to
leave that specific conversation to the more informed.
My earlier comments apply to a general pattern of behavior over the
course of several decades, rather than to a specific visit by the Pope
to a particular place. John Paul has done a number of things that weigh
in both directions on Christian unity -- Ut Unum Sint, for example, will
probably eventually be remembered as a great step forward -- but overall
he seems to have lost considerable ground since previous popes in
actually accomplishing agreement on ecumenical efforts.
