I have seen the wildest things come in all types of even expensive equipment. Solder blobs bridging across pads but by just dumb luck aren't making contact, heavy current pads with the component held by just a thin film of solder, extra screws, washers, bolts, screws too long about to short something out, etc. Then again I'm not a typical home user, much more handy than stupid, I think.
