NP> I was advised that a 1.2G is only of use on my machine if NP> the guy could have supplied Disk Manager for that particular NP> drive (or maxtor drives) I have DM for WD drives (I think) RS> The driver is normally available from the manufacturers RS> BBS, tho that may mean a US call. Seagate is Sydney. NP> An OS call is not a problem now that I have a full nodelist, They arent normally nodelisted, because they arent Fido BBSs. In fact I cant think of one which is. NP> but I would prefer to have the drivers come NP> _with_ the drive. That way I know they will work. It really isnt a major problem. They basically use the same software, and its just a modified version which uses the IDE Identify command to check if the drive is the correct brand at most. In fact in many ways its better with a second hand drive to get the latest version of the driver from manufacturers BBS coz that may have some wart fixes etc. The later versions have some advantages like being protected against being accidentally creamed by an FDISK /MBR with all the data becoming invisible too. Tho thats also not hard to protect against by just keeping a copy of the first physical sector of the drive on floppys too. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
