The relay that "picks up" the phone line. I'm actually assuming that
that is what has happened to it; if you plug an active phone line into
it, the speaker on the modem emits the dial tone, and while it thinks
it's dialing, it doesn't. We didn't have tone service then, at all,
so I didn't even try. I'll have to dig it out and see what happens;
it won't be able to hang up, is my guess.
