I guess that this is for the Web?  I'd suggest going for JPEG, since
GIF is limited to 256 colours.  GIF is faster to decode than JPEG,
but GIFs are always bigger than JPEGs.

Oops!  HamLab will load GIF but can't save it.  :( It does great
JPegs, though.

A lot of cover disk software isn't necessarily freely distributable,
especially the bigger applications.  Buying the magazine is part of
the software licence.  OTOH, a lot of people don't realize this &
may be quite innocently distributing them.  Besides, the coverdisks
often don't have complete docs - you need to refer to the magazine
article.

I'd suggest that you look on Aminet for something legit. :)
