Yep. I've used a couple when I needed to and had no problems.
Mind you, I checked out half a dozen before finding one that
actually worked properly.

"brand-related" ??? Memory or Main-Board ?

I used them before I could easily source the SIMM converters.
Now that they are easily obtained, I wouldn't bother.
