 Analog power supplys (modem wall-warts, etc.) like either pure sine-wave 
power or at least modified sine-wave. Square waves are OK for switching power 
supplies as in computers. Some stuff is really fussy, and will overheat with 
anything less than pure sine wave; I'd suspect that motors would be in that 
catagory.
