I don't know if this may help at all...

I had an experience with your note to Bob that could not be repeated with
the original to Mme Fatale.  The version to Bob in my Thunderbird browser
(an old one) showed garbage characters however by viewing the underlying
source (with CTRL+U), the Cyrillic characters were displayed.  *Surprise*.

Does this make any sense to you?  I can produce *.png happy snaps of these
screens on demand, if it'll help.
