Well you're doing the wise thing there. Venting [it works faster and better if you use a window fan], and then shutting the windows and drawing the blinds to keep the sun out, usually keeps the place here cool until noon or later, sometimes into late afternoon, depending. Even on very hot days, I usually don't use the A/C until 2 pm. > This building is full of leaks, i think the > neighbour downstairs is contributing to my misery What does he/she do, cook all day? > and it's quite possible the refrigerator could be > generating more heat than i suspected I don't really think a frig generates that much heat, but I could be wrong. How hot are the coils in back of your frig? A tip Hydro-Quebec repeats often is to keep those coils free of dust-buidup. > Only the lower halves of our windows let air > circulate, that puts a lot of distance between it > and the ceiling which is more than a meter higher > - some heat reservoir! Sounds like -that- could be a problem. Again, a good window fan might help get that hot air out. > Of course, i got no exhaust hood at the moment > That was somewhere in my projects (i can do some > transformations) but no money is coming from the > landlord and i must choose amongst few other > priorities. I wouldn't pay for and install an exhaust hood in a rental place. If you do get one, get one with manual controls. Less to go wrong, and cheaper. You have to buy them early in the season. They sell out quickly. Or the price shoots up as the temperature shoots up. I think they're worthwhile. Less expensive to run than you may think -- since you use it only a couple of hours a day, only a few weeks a year. And it lets you keep at whatever you're doing. Mine must be at least 15 years old and still going strong. PM> ...If you can't stand the heat, get out of the PM> kitchen. That was supposed to be humor. We get arctic temperatures in winter, tropical temperatures in summer. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Juxtaposition BBS, Telnet:juxtaposition.dynip.com (1:167/133) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 167/133 379/1 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
