You're forgetting that "Spock" participated in this remake.  Why would 
he think it was illogical?  

Audiences change over time.  I believe it was Spock who stated that 
change is the natural order of things.

Remaking things for new audiences has existed long before Star Trek and 
will continue.  Why would they give it a new name?  Now that's 
illogical.

It doesn't mean anyone has to like it or even see it.  But it does exist 
and it is official.  Deal with it.
