Briefs and highlights from the General Assembly
By The Associated Press
--------------------------------------------------------
Del. Jay Katzen said he will propose legislation
repealing a little-known state law that allows doctors
to prescribe marijuana for cancer and glaucoma patients.
The General Assembly passed the law in 1979, but even
its sponsor -- Rep. Rick Boucher -- said last week that
he had no recollection of it. Other state and law
enforcement officials said they were not aware of the
law.
''I just don't want marijuana out there,'' said Katzen,
R-Warrenton.
He said other drugs can be used for cancer and glaucoma
patients.
Katzen said his proposal is not intended to burnish his
resume for his bid for the Republican nomination for
lieutenant governor this year.
