The situation that I had living in the mid west, my colt (at that time
Stud Colt) had two acres of pasture grass, trees and a small pond. He
was there all by him self since I sold the other horses because I had
to move. He never pawed unless I tied him up on the lead rope and
wanted to brush him or bathe him etc... Then that's when he started
with the pawing. Or, when I turned by back to get another brush or
hoof pick, then he would do it. Even after he was gelded he continued
to paw. I had read in the Appaloosa Journal's latest issue that they
had said the same thing that you mentioned about boredom, or wants to
go out and play or work. These horses would have been great at war
time to dig foxholes....he, he

Yes, I did the same thing too. it kept kept his attention for awhile.
This colt is almost too playful and too smart!!
I better start sending the farrier bill directly to my colt......
