PE> I tell you what, this new IDE is a hell PE> of a lot quiter than my old SCSI monster. PE> Shit, and I had translated that into PE> "doesn't need to move so fast, thus quieter". The noisiness of a drive is basically in two parts. There is the noise it makes when its not doing anything, just sitting there rotating. Thats basically the noise the rotation motor makes. This has improved heaps over time, particularly from the big full height 5.25" dinosaurs. The other noise is the noise it makes moving the head around. Some modern drives are reasonably quiet when just sitting rotating, but make quite a racket moving the head around, particularly if the drive is working hard head movement wise. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
