Rod, at 09:44 on May 07 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... RS> Here we dont even bother to mount the civil suit in the first place coz RS> you would normally be stuck with the legal bill even if you did win. BG> Not any more. It's mainly "no win, no pay" these days, and BG> if you do win, the lawyer's fees are taken out of the winnings. RS> Pigs arse it is, particularly in that situation here. BG> Are you completely thick, or what? That's EXACTLY what the BG> legals are ADVERTISING up here in pulp magazines, TV guides etc. RS> Nope, not for that particular type of suit. Where the one you try to RS> sue hasnt got a fucking hope in hell of every paying even if you win. RS> Those contingency fee systems only work if there is money get a cut of. I've left in all the prior quoting, as I've just realised that you mentioned "civil" in the top par, and these ambulance-chasers up here are indeed touting for accident victims who may qualify for insurance-type payouts. As you say, they're not too likely to take on civil cases on that basis, so for once, we were genuinely arguing at crossed purposes.
