bk>> case passed by, and said, "Bonjour" as he passed. My somewhat
bk>> impaired hearing did not decipher what he said, so my daughter
bk>> informed me, too late to respond.
CH> Do yourself a happy self esteem boosting favor.
CH> Watch for body language next time.
CH> If someone smiles at you and seems to be saying, Hi...
CH> Respond with a smile and nod of the head. If they seem to
CH> need help they're facial expression and hand gestures may
CH> convey that need.
My hearing isn't really bad enough for me to develop the skills
at reading people. Been working in a high noise enviornment for
30 years, where you can't hear anyone a foot away, and still
can't read lips.
All you gotta do is speak up a bit, enunciate, and face me.
CH> When I'm out walking the dogs and someone pulls over
CH> apparently needing directions I'll simply say ... sorry
CH> I'm new here. Which isn't far from the truth. If I happen
CH> to get back into the habit of carrying a little note pad
CH> and pen I'll ask them what they want. Some people freak
CH> out when given a paper and pen though. It's tricky
CH> territory. Exhausting as it is we have to assert ourselves
CH> a bit at times like that.
All I need is for them to speak up a bit. To which end I just
mention that I am a bit hard of hearing. OTOH, in a quiet
enviornment I can understand quite well. I don't even need my
hearing aids at most concerts, as the acustics tend to be good
and the audience quiet.
CH> Now as for delays in letting us know what was said , way
CH> past where we can respond we need to let our loved ones
CH> know that we'd appreciate the opportunity to respond
CH> promptly.. You see they really don't know. We have to
CH> shelve our dismay and teach them. Gently.
Smack! (no? Sorry.)
CH> Help family members get over being squeamish about using
CH> body language. It's perfectly okay! It's only when we use
CH> it too much and for no reason we can "look crazy" (so the
CH> stigma goes.)
CH> ..................
CH>> Okay somebody is going to translate all this for us poor
CH>> unwashed masses?
bk>> Well, I'm lost today, but give me 5 minutes and I may be found.
CH> I like that. And it's cute how a TV show has yet again
CH> created a household word so to speak. Or rather created a
CH> 'household word' OUT of a common word.
Huh? Which household word?
bk>> If not, we can grill Lee about it. If he doesn't reply we'll
bk>> make hamburger out of him. With dehydrated onions.
CH> I'd rather have grilled swiss with red peppers and a dab of
CH> honey mustard. Or better: NYS style bagel; a toasted sesame
CH> seed bagel with sweet red peppers, aged a bit of cheddar
CH> and minced garlic toasted on top... (HAS to be a sesame
CH> bagel...)
See, Cindy...
LL>> Ce doit avoir ‚t‚ ce gallon fran‡ais qui m'a obtenu perdu.
LL>> Mais maintenant j'ai ‚t‚ trouv‚. :)
lost> perdue
found> trouve
5 minutes> quinze minutes
grill> gril
hamburger> Pates d'hamburger
dehydrated onions> Oignons deshydrates
My French was high school, over 40 years ago. But the only part
of that I didn't get, I believe, was the Jus de choucroute.
Juice of something. Knowing Lee it might be Juice of Crawfish.
Nah... even he wouldn't do that... would he?
Let's see how I did, Lee can score it.
He had a french recipe that he had lost, but now he has found
it.
The (meillure) classic? best? preferred? method is to soak the
dehydrated onions in the choucroute juice, whatever that is, for
about 5 minutes. Then place them with the hamburger patties on
the grill. And the cuisine is complete.
IOW, it appears he is a purist when it comes to hamburgers. As
am I.
