The 50 cents per video for one week is at "Family Video" here
in Michigan. Until "Family Video" began building stores here
prices were around $1 for two days just about everywhere. Two
of my daughters have worked at FV and tell me they take in $20K
per week at just one location. Seems the other video rental
businesses are a bit greedy? 

Part of the training for employees is to "wow the customers" as
they call it. The "wow" means to let you have tapes for free,
extend the number of days you can use the tape, waive late
fees, etc. This is a bit random but if you tell them it's been
awhile since they've impressed you they immediately waive all
charges and you get a freebie whatever it was you had intended
to pay for. Reminds me of "the old days" when the owner was at
the cash register and could do favors for valued long-time
customers. :-)
