GWENNA BOWERS was thinking about Newbie and keyed into cyberspace:
GB>->I am a newbie to this echo.. I am interested in ADD and ADHD
GB>->because my
GB>->husband has been diagnosed ADD and my kids are borderline, but
GB>->never
GB>->been diagnosed. I have a question.
GB>->-> I wonder if the schools know how to handle or inpliment a 504?
GB>->-> I know that one was written up and signed last year for my
GB>->-> daughter and I know that it is not being followed and she is at
GB>->-> risk of failing the fourth grade.
GB>->What is a 504?
GB>I am not sure I can fully answer that question. In short it directs
GB>the teacher to assist the child in problem areas if the child needs
GB>to sit in front of the class in order to better pay attation (sp)
GB>then the teacher is to make sure that is were the child sits. If
GB>the homework is written down the teacher makes sure that it is
GB>correctly written as to what is expected. I may be off on this but
GB>if you were to ask "All" someone in this echo should be able to give
GB>a better discription. Now that you brought it up I am going to pull
GB>out my books on ADD and look it up tomarrow as if I was to turn on
GB>all the lights looking for it it will wake everyone up.
504 specifically refers to a section of the Rehab Act. A 504 plan
specifies the unique needs of the child and the proposed remediations
and accommodations.
