I just saw a book about this in the local public library, called "Trailerable 
Sailboats" or something like that, which went into detail about what 
specifically to look for, what featurs are good, and which are bad, that sort 
of thing.  Remind me, and I will look up the exact title and author for you.  
After looking through that book, I don't think I'd want to go shopping for a 
sailboat without it.
