subject: TV reception

Hi Phil,

About "TV reception" of July 8:

PM> So you were out of the way of the mountain.
MS> If a few other Montrealers read us perhaps they could use our tips?
PM> At any rate, the area's gone super high rent recently.

Yeah, that i noticed; i did a lot of local tourism before i moved.

PM> I didn't know there were that many channels in the area...
MS> Yes, let me count them from the bottom up. ...SRC (2), CBC (6)...
PM> OK. VHF.

That VCR had twelve pre-set positions, the VHF/UHF mix was allowed.

MS> TQC (17)...
PM> Local to Montreal? The government channel?

Not much of any government content there if not for the subventions
but yes, i suppose we could call Tele-Qu‚bec one Governmental channel...

MS> ABC (22)...
PM> Never got it, I don't think.

It's unfortunate because WVNY used to have some worthy programming.

PM> I'd be happy simply getting 57 again.

I'd agree dreaming of channel 22 would be unrealistic in your case,
i'm not so shure what the status of CH-57 really is over there and since
i can't no garantee the filter solution applies i won't insist anyway...

Too much bias from my part could prove to be of diservice, the only
people who can help are technicians but they're not cheap neither and it
wouldn't surprize me to be told that they got some agenda$ of their own.

MS> ...Global CH-46 perhaps.
PM> Got Global OK, but then... Similar to or duplicates 12...

WCAX CH-3 is identified to both the CBS and Global NetWorks and the
later seemed to be loosing a bit of its identity lately; it doen't have
my favour: i unsubscribed to it after Cogeco said no to Global Toronto.

MS> ...the explanation from Mike Ross about the 6 dB drop seems sound...
PM> Yes, I've saved that, but haven't had a chance to try -anything-
PM> yet. I don't think I've had the TV on for more than a few hours...

No need to leave Montreal to appreciate real TV programming issues.

The more it goes the more we get outrageously noisy advertising and
the less there's quality content.  The days of TV may very well be over;
my prefered station alone is costing about 8 $ a month right now and the
only audience for it is 100 % digital as it won't broadcast on air, most
advertisements are still noisy but at least they're targetted... If the
programming keeps repeating like in others i'll unsubscribe to that too!

                                                        Salutations, :)

                                                        Michel Samson

... Sometimes, the cost of new features is too high, really! Is it not?
