Replying to a message of Cindy Haglund to Bob Ackley: CH> Parrots are uncanny how they mimic the human voice and what we say. CH> But they're just reacting ... they don't understand what they're CH> saying. This is easy to demonstrate. Years ago a friend of mine had a pet grackle. The thing just moved in with them when it was very young. They could let it out of the house in warm weather and it'd stay in the yard, and come back in at night. That thing could mimic a ringing telephone perfectly. It finally died of apparently natural causes at the age of about five, which, I'm told, is about three years longer than they live in the wild. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:2905/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/201 14/300 400 34/999 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 229/4000 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 SEEN-BY: 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 712/848 801/161 189 SEEN-BY: 2222/700 2800/18 2905/0 @PATH: 2905/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
