JERRY SCHWARTZ was thinking about Re: ad(h)d and keyed into cyberspace:

Not so. First, get the rules regarding PROCEDURE from your state ed
department. THEN, follow these steps:
	1. Formally request that the child be evaluated for
identification under IDEA. A note from the pediatrician will help.
	2. Request that the child be evaluated by the school district.
	3. If you disagree with the evaluation, you have the right under
Federal Law to request that there be an independent evaluation. YOU
should be able to do the choosing.
3a. The school may refuse, and elect to proceed to an impartial
hearing.
	4. If the school agrees, you are stuck with the results of the
evaluation. Thus, it is in your best interest to prepare for this exam.
use checklists, etc. prepared by yourself, teachers, and other
professionals who have an opportunity to evaluate your child.
	5. Find an advocate. Ask the PTA for the statewide office
location. Call Legal Aid as they often can refer you. Contact CHADD.
All mail is certified, return receipt. All conversations are
memorialized by a follow-up letter summarizing the conversation and
giving the recipient a week to make corrections. (I always put something
in that will make them want to write to me. Get them to change one
thing, which automatically confirms the rest.)
And the most important thing:
NEVER GIVE UP and NEVER LET THEM SEE YOU CRY!
