At some places, yeah. I don't know that I want to be in one of those
places, though.

I'm reminded of another time I was in the job market, some years back. I
went on an interview, for a place that was contracting to another outfit
that was doing work at various state agencies. Not a big deal, I thought,
as I'd done exactly that sort of thing before at state agencies back when
I had my shop.

The place was full of what looked to me like clones, these young guys that
were all dressed about the same, had about the same short haircuts, etc.
Things went well, up to a point. Then the guy who was with the agency
that was trying to get me in there walked outside with me. He said that my
resume showed better qualifications than anybody else that they'd talked
to. But the way I was dressed (!) was a problem. He said that if I'd come
back and wore a suit and tie, that *maybe* they could do something...

I don't even OWN a suit and tie. Plus this was one of those nasty
hot-and-humid days in the middle of summer, temps in the 90s, and my car
didn't have working air conditioning. But I guess they weren't buying any
sort of ability, they were buying appearance. And that's not what I'm
selling...

Like a bunch of other places I've encountered over the years, this place
isn't around any more.

CA> You can earn a living doing 'Visual' anything programming and they

Those places aren't worth *my* time to interview.

The "skills" that they're advertising for are the same sort of
skills that are being churned out by the "tech" schools, which
seem to vary their product to suit the specific degree of m$-bias built
into their perception of the market at the time.

And I'm just not gonna go there.
