Hi Shauna,
³ So glad to see you've got Fido working again :)
It was great! I had an email get returned to me. Let me know if it got
sent out again. At least this time I had the fido as a backup.
³ Congrats on finishing the quilt. What kind of cotton batt did you
³ use? Harriet Hargrave's book, Heirloom Machine Quilting, has a
I used Fairfield's soft touch cotton. I have that HH book. I haven't
read it yet, but should. I looked up a thing or two though. I did take
the machine quilting class in Jan. That was a great class. And the
lucky thing is that the teacher was Cody Mazuran, who belongs to my quilt
group (and the designer of that pattern for the Quilter's Keep) and is
availible to me all the time for questions and advice. I had a problem
with a piece that I was working on, and she was able to give me a couple
of pointers to correct it.
BTW, have you filled your Keep yet? I just love mine. It goes
everywhere with me. If you put long pins in the pin cushion, slant them
at an angle or they will poke through to the outside. I found this out
the hard way......ouch!
³ SL> the eagle quilt all marked. My friend lent me her light box, and
t
³ SL> worked very well. While I had it, I used it to mark a nine-patch
that
³ SL> I have in the wings.
³ I had to look up how you'd use this for marking - I found out this
³ is done before sandwiching. I was thinking how can you mark a
uilt
³ using the light box when you've got it sandwiched and basted. :) :)
It worked well for marking lines that are not done with a ruler or
stencil on top. I usually mark as I quilt. A couple of exceptions to
that of course. But if I am using a chalk line for something, it rubs
off so fast that I can only mark small areas at a time. But the nice
thing is that it rubs off easily. I have about six of my feather designs
finished. But I am using the eraser to take some of the pencil lines
off. I went a little heavy on the pencil when I marked. The feathers
look great! I sent you a pic of the top didn't I? Anyway the feather
designs are in the large light blue triangles all around the top. I will
do something different in the square surrounding the eagle. I am really
going to have to consentrate on getting this piece finished in time for
the show in mid Sept. I had set a goal for '97. I wanted to finish two
bed sized quilts, and several smaller projects. I am way behind because
of the star challange. I have been working on the bowtie in the frame.
But the Centennial quilt probably won't be finished by the end of the
year. BTW, I meant hand quilted. The machine quilted pieces don't figure
in the count.
³ How nice to see other quilts - and all the ideas too!
³ Talking of quilts shows - Our fair board needs to get something to
³ display the quilts that are brought in. We don't have more than
³ 15 entries but it would be nice to have them displayed properly.
³ I have an idea for a frame with double dowels on top. But I'm not
³ sure whether I should get this built. Have you seen other ways
³ we could display quilts? We cannot use hang from the ceiling idea.
Our guild has these racks that they use. I am not sure what they are
called though. The two side poles have tripod stands. The poles are
adjustable in height. The poles hold another pole across the top which
goes into the hanging sleeve of the quilt. I am not sure where they got
the stands from, but I can check with the guild pres. the next time I see
her.
My kids are visiting relatives in California. The house is so quiet!
Almost too quiet! It is not just them, rather the phone ringing
constantly and their friends in and out of the house as well. Paul is
taking me out tonight. We will go to dinner and then to the opening
night of the Utah Starzz. The womens basketball league has a team in
SLC. I am really excited about it. We bought season tickets. Of
course, we can afford Starzz tickets, but not Jazz tickets. I hope that
the league makes it. It is nice to be able to have more opportunities
availible for women athletes. My daughter the athlete is in one of the
few sports in high school that is on equal footing with the boys teams.
The swim teams work out together, the meets are combined, and they cheer
each other on. The same is true of the track and cross-country teams.
But the other sports still give priority to the boys.
Let me know if that email makes it to you. If not, I will try to send it
again.
Sylvia
